Wale ft Lil Wayne – Running Back
On Dec. 12, a behind-the-scenes clip of a new Wale and Lil Wayne collaboration surfaced. Today (Jan. 3), Folarin and Weezy debuted the track on ESPN’s First Take.
The record is called “Running Back,” and it’s slated to appear on the DMV rhymer’s upcoming album, S.H.I.N.E. (Still Here Ignoring Negative Energy).
“Running Back” is a strong first single off Wale’s fifth studio album. Throughout the performance, which you can watch above via YouTube, Ralph and Tunechi spit football metaphors over a colorful, catchy instrumental.
“Turn the strip club to a hurricane/You know that weed is so flurry, gang,” Wayne raps. “And we do not play games ’bout money, mane/She do something strange for money, mane/I used to play running back, I turn that football to a money bag.”
“Running Back” is the first official collaboration between Wale and Wayne. A few years back, Weezy remixed Folarin’s DMV anthem, “Nike Boots.”
Wale has been hard at work recently. On Dec. 3, he put out “Groundhog Day,” a response to J. Cole’s track “False Prophets.” A few days after that, the More About Nothing rapper dropped “Folarin Like,” a freestyle over the classic Nas beat for “Nas is Like.”
Then, Wale unleashed “Black Is Gold,” where he delivers a positive message over the instrumental from D’Angelo’s 1995 hit, “Lady.” Shortly after that, he returned with “Heisman Watch.” And today, he dropped “Smile” featuring fellow Maryland native Phil Adé.
